Brazilian mixed martial arts veteran Cristiano Marcello, 40, has signed with Bahrain-based MMA promotion Brave Combat Federation. He is the founder of CM System, a martial arts academy in Curitiba, Brazil.

“I signed a three-fight contract with Brave,” Marcello announced. He added that his promotional debut will take place either in Bahrain in November 2018 or in a different venue in December 2018.

This marks Marcello’s return to the cage after going on hiatus for several years. In 2014, he hung up his gloves so he could focus on CM System.

“My idea was to focus on CM System, and thank God I made it the best team in Brazil,” Marcello said. “We have athletes fighting all around the world. I’ve been training since I was eight years old, I fought with no gloves, I didn’t do it for money, and always had this itch to come back.”

Marcello used to be a full-time Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coach at Chute Boxe Academy in Curritiba while fighting part-time. He competed in PRIDE Fighting Championships, Bitetti Combat and the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“I want my kids to watch me fight,” the CM System founder shared. “I want the new generation of CM System fighters to watch me fight. I was always an athlete, and this fire is back.

Marcello enrolled in the Gracie Academy in 1989, he moved to the United States to train with Rickson Gracie in 1995 and returned to Brazil for the Vale Tudo competition in 1998. Eventually, Marcello received his black belt under Royler Gracie.

In 2001, Marcello joined the Chute Boxe Academy. For eight years, he served as a grappling coach in the academy where he helped to train many well-known MMA fighters including Brazilian fighter Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva, 41, who is now friends with Brave CF.

One of the incidents Marcello is most known for is a confrontation  backstage at a PRIDE event in 2005 when American fighter Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett, 38, was speaking ill of Silva and the Chute Boxe academy. A fight ensued and Marcello locked in a triangle choke and choked Bennett unconscious.

When Marcello started CM System in 2009, he left Chute Boxe amicably although he still trains many fighters from the academy out of his gym. He is currently a 4th degree black belt.

In 2012, Marcello competed at “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 15 against Justin “The American Kid” Lawrence, 28, of Missouri. The Brazilian contender knocked out his American opponent by knocking out his American opponent.

The last time Marcello competed was on February 15, 2014 at “UFC Fight Night 36” where he lost to his American opponent Joe Proctor, 32, via unanimous decision. The latest Brave CF prospect who trains at CM System includes Brazilian fighter Luan “Miau” Santiago, 23, a former lightweight championship contender who won 2 out of 3 bouts in the promotion.

“I signed a three-fight contract with Brave,” Marcello announced. He added that his promotional debut will take place either in Bahrain in November 2018 or in a different venue in December 2018.
