Undefeated Hawaiian MMA fighter Ilima-Lei Macfarlane is still Bellator Women’s Flyweight Champion

Hailing from Honolulu, Hawaii, mixed martial artist Ilima-Lei “The Ilimanator” Macfarlane, 28, became the first ever champion of Bellator MMA in its women’s flyweight division on November 3, 2017. On June 29, 2018, she successfully defended her title from her Colombian opponent.

Macfarlane became the inaugural Bellator Women’s Flyweight Champion after submitting Emily “Gordinha” Ducote, 24, of Oklahoma via triangle armbar at 3:42 of Round 5 in the co-main event of “Bellator 186,” which took place at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pennsylvania. It was a rematch between the two female fighters who first fought on December 3, 2016 at “Bellator 167” where the Hawaiian fighter won via unanimous decision.

In Macfarlane’s first title defense, she headlined “Bellator 201” with her challenger Alejandra “Azul” Lara, 23, of Medellin, Antioquia, Colombia. Referee Mike Beltran put a stop to the bout at 3:55 of Round 3 when the Hawaiian champ submitted her Colombian challenger via armbar.

Still undefeated, Macfarlane improved his professional MMA record to 8 wins and 0 loss after defeating Lara at “Bellator 201.” The Hawaiian champ earned 7 of these 8 wins in Bellator MMA.

As an amateur MMA fighter, Macfarlane maintained a perfect record of 5 wins and 0 loss. She made her professional MMA debut on January 17, 2015 at “Xplode Fight Series: Hurricane” where she knocked out Katie Castro of California via punches at 0:10 of Round 1.

On August 28, 2015, Macfarlane made a successful Bellator MMA debut by defeating Maria Rios, 35, of New Mexico via split decision at “Bellator 141.” Afterwards, Macfarlane submitted both Amber Tackett, 31, of California and Rebecca “Ruthless” Ruth, 39, of Missouri via armbar at “Bellator 148” on January 29, 2016 and via rear-naked choke at “Bellator 157” on June 24, 2016, respectively.

Between Macfarlane and Ducote’s first match and rematch, the Hawaiian contender faced Jessica “Million Hits” Middleton, 30, of Kansas at “Bellator 178” on April 21, 2017. Middleton was submitted by Macfarlane via armbar at 2:15 of Round 1.

After losing to Macfarlane at “Bellator 201,” Lara now has 7 wins and 2 losses.  When the Colombian fighter made her Bellator MMA debut at “Bellator 190” on December 9, 2017, she submitted Lena “Hunter” Ovchynnikova, 31, of Ukraine via rear-naked choke.
