Reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Brazil is expected to be in the audience at “ONE: Reign of Kings.” In the main event, Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam will face Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, of the Philippines.
On January 26, 2018, Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes, 29, of Brazil was in the audience when Belingon’s Team Lakay teammate Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 29, earned the ONE Interim Flyweight World Championship against Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhtemov of Kazakhstan at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. On June 23, 2018, Eustaquio became the undisputed ONE Flyweight World Champion by defeating Moraes at the Studio City Event Center in Macau, China.
On July 27, 2018, Nguyen and Belingon will compete for the ONE Interim Bantamweight World Championship. The Vietnamese-Australian fighter said, “Bibiano Fernandes should watch this fight with a close eye.”
“He knows who the rightful challenger is,” Nguyen said of Fernandes. “It’s either me or Kevin Belingon, and I will be doing everything in my power to finish this one.”
Reigning as the ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion, Nguyen came incredibly close to making history yet again at “ONE: Iron Will” on March 24, 2018 when he challenged reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Brazil. The Brazilian champ retained his title by defeating his Vietnamese-Australian opponent via split decision.
Had Nguyen won, he would have been the only three-division world champion in the history of mixed martial arts. After losing to Fernandes, Nguyen successfully defended his featherweight strap against Singaporean rival Christian “The Warrior” Lee, 19, in a rematch on May 18, 2018 at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams.”
Nguyen still strives to become the first man to ever hold three world championships in MMA. He said, “Don’t blink when you watch this fight because I am going to bring it.”
“I also expect that he is going to bring it,” Nguyen said of Belingon. “I know that I am on the verge of making history.”
“I am not letting go,” the reigning ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion added. “I am holding onto this tightly. I will go home with three world titles.”
