Xiong Jing Nan vs Samara Santos at ‘ONE: Beyond the Horizon’ in Shanghai, China

For the second time, reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 30, of Shandong, China will defend her title. She will face Samara “Marituba” Santos, 25, of Para, Brazil at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China on September 8, 2018.

Santos will make her ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon.” She currently holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 11 wins and 5 losses.

The Brazilian fighter is coming out of a redemptive win. In her most recent bout, which was at “Capanema Fight Combat 22” on May 5, 2018, she knocked out her fellow Brazilian fighter Rosiele “Rosi” Pereira de Almeida via kicks.

Before defeating Almeida, who is also from Para, Santos suffered four consecutive losses. After losing to Aga Niedzwiedz of Poland at “LFN 4: Fortuna Dies Natalis” on December 17, 2016, Santos lost to three fellow Brazilian fighters namely Marina Alcalde Rodriguez, 31, Maiara Amanajas dos Santos, 31, and Rayane Marques Bastos, 19.

On the other hand, Xiong is riding a seven-bout winning streak. Now with 12 wins and 1 loss, she has competed in ONE Championship thrice and won all the bouts.

When Xiong made her ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Warriors of the World” on December 9, 2017, she knocked out April Osenio, 24, of the Philippines via punches. On January 20, 2018, the Chinese fighter became the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion after knocking out Tiffany “No Chill” Teo, 28, of Singapore via punches at “ONE: Kings of Courage” at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.

On June 23, 2018, Xiong defended her title for the first time. She defeated her challenger Laura “La Gladiadora” Balin, 38, of Argentina via unanimous decision at “ONE: Pinnacle of Power” on June 23, 2018 at the Studio City Event Center in Macau, China.

The co-main event of “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” will be a battle between two lightweight stars of ONE Championship. Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 28, of the Philippines will battle it out with Amir Khan, 23, of Singapore.
