The next Team Lakay warrior to go to war is Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 28. He will co-headline “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” with Amir Khan, 23, of Singapore.
“ONE: Beyond the Horizon” will take place at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai, China on September 8, 2018. In the co-main event of the evening, Banario and Khan will compete in the star-studded lightweight division of ONE Championship.
Currently reigning as the ONE Lightweight World Champion is Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam. He is also the reigning ONE Featherweight World Champion.
Nguyen has been the ONE Lightweight World Champion since November 10, 2017. He captured the title at “ONE: Legends of the World” by dethroning Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, of Baguio City, Philippines, who is Banario’s Team Lakay teammate.
Banario is the first ever mixed martial arts world champion of the Philippines. He reigned as the ONE Featherweight World Champion from February 2, 2013 to May 31, 2013.
Currently, Banario holds a professional MMA record of 13 wins and 6 losses. He is riding a five-bout winning streak.
On the other hand, Khan has 10 wins and 3 losses. He won seven of his eight most recent bouts.
In Khan’s most recent bout, which was at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on May 18, 2018, he knocked out Sung Jong Lee, 32, of South Korea via punches. It was a redemptive win for the Singaporean contender, who lost to Timofey Nastyukhin, 28, of Kemerovo Oblast, Russia at “ONE: Quest for Gold” at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar on February 23, 2018.
In Banario’s most recent bout, which was at “ONE: Heroes of Honor” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines, he faced Adrian “The Hunter” Pang, 40, of Papua New Guinea and Australia. The Team Lakay warrior won the bout via split decision.
The full fight card of “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” has yet to be released. In the main event, reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 30, of Beijing, China will defend her title for the second time.
Challenging Xiong will be Samara “Marituba” Santos, 25, of Para, Brazil. “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” marks her ONE Championship debut.
