Four members of the Detroit Pistons Extreme Team were recently in the Philippines for the eighth edition of the annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament NBA 3X Philippines. The sports event is presented by AXA.
On August 26, 2018, Detroit Pistons Extreme Team dunkers Tyler “Ace” Piro, Ryan “Twista” Libiran, Chad “Tornado” Layton and Nick “Stretch” Mearnic entertained the crowd at the NBA 3X Philippines 2018, which took place at the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. With the fiery Filipino basketball fans as their witnesses, they exhibited their gravity-defying dunk routine for almost half an hour.
Both Piro and Mearnic have been on the team for four years. The former loves to do flips and spins like an ace pilot and his favorite Detroit Pistons player is Reggie Jackson while the latter is known for his long arm and his favorite player in the team is Jon Leuer.
Libiran has been on the team for seven years. He does crazy spins on and off the trampoline and his favorite Detroit Pistons player is Boban Marjanovic.
Layton has been on the team for nine years. He is known for his crazy flips and spins and his favorite Detroit Pistons player is Tobias Harris.
The NBA 3X Philippines 2018 started on August 25, 2018. Aside from Piro, Libiran, Layton and Mearnic, NBA legends Tim Hardaway Sr. and Brian Scalabrine were also present during the event as special guests.
Prior to the main event, 456 participated in the NBA 3X Philippines 2018 preliminary tournaments in Baguio City and 744 in the qualifiers in Metro Manila. There were Men’s Open and Women’s Open divisions as well as Boys Under 13, Boys Under 16, Boys Under 18, Girls Under 18 divisions, the AXA Division and the invitation-only Celebrity Division.
ABS-CBN S+A, Basketball TV and NBA Premium TV were the official NBA broadcasters for NBA 3X Philippines 2018. The event was made possible by AXA Philippines as the presenting partner, CloudFone, Gatorade, Nike, Panasonic, Rexona, PLDT and Smart as the official partners and SM Mall of Asia an Spalding as supporting partners.
