Brazil’s Vicente Luque earns 7th UFC win at ‘UFC 229’

Fighting out of Brasilia, Distrito Federal, Brazil, Vicente “The Silent Assassin” Luque, 26, won in his most recent bout in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It was his seventh victory in the promotion.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches, the UFC held “UFC 229” at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, United States on October 6, 2018. In the sixth bout of the evening, Luque competed in the welterweight division against Jalin “The Tarantula” Turner, 23, San Bernardino, California, United States.

Referee Dan Miragliotta put a stop to the welterweight bout between Luque and Turner at 3:52 in the first round. The Brazilian fighter knocked out his American opponent via punches.

“UFC 229” marked Luque’s ninth UFC bout. The first six opponents he defeated in the promotion were Hayder Hassan, Alvaro Herrera, Hector Urbina, Belal Muhammad, Nico Price and Chad Laprise.

By defeating Turner at “UFC 229,” Luque improved his professional mixed martial arts record to 14 wins and 6 losses. On the other hand, Turner’s record downgraded to 7 wins and 4 losses.

In the co-main event of the evening, Tony “El Cucy” Ferguson, 34, of Oxnard, California, United States and Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, 31, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States competed in the lightweight division. After two five-minute rounds, the Californian contender was declared the winner via technical knockout corner stoppage.

In the main event, Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 30, of Dagestan, Russia defended his UFC Lightweight Championship belt for the first time. Former champion Conor “Notorious” McGregor, 30, of Dublin, Ireland challenged the Dagestani reigning champion.

Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor via rear-naked choke at 3:06 in the fourth round. Watch the “UFC 229” post-fight conference here:
