Princess Eugenie’s wedding dress shows scoliosis back scars

On October 12, 2018, Princess Eugenie, 28, and Jack Brooksbank, 32, got married at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in Windsor, England. The wedding dress worn by the member of the Royal Family was designed for a special reason.

Princess Eugenie wanted her wedding dress to reveal a low back, which reveals her scars from a scoliosis operation. When she was 12 years old, she had a successful surgery to correct the medical condition at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Greater London, United Kingdom.

Representatives from the hospital were invited to the royal wedding. Charity representatives and members of the public also attended the wedding.

“So that’s one really important one,” Princess Eugenie told ITV show “This Morning” host Eamonn Holmes. “But separate to that, other organisations that are there, it’s just very important that they get a chance to be honoured for the work that they do constantly, so it’s lovely that I can share this special day with them.”

Scoliosis is minor in the early stage like in the case of Princess Eugenie. If not treated, it may lead to severe deformities and the abnormal curvature can progress in extreme cases, affecting either the heart or the lung functioning in the thoracic spine, according to Digital Journal.

Children with severe scoliosis are twice as likely as children without the disease to carry a gene variant, Washington University scientists have found, as published in the journal Nature Communications. This makes it hard for the cells of children with severe scoliosis to take in and use manganese.

Revealing scoliosis back scars, Princess Eugenie’s wedding dress featured a neckline that folds around her shoulders. It was designed by Christoper De Vos and Peter Pilotto.

In 2010, mutual friends of Brooksbank and Princess Eugenie introduced them to each other during a skiing trip to Switzerland. The parents of the latter co-own a home in a resort there.

In early 2018, Brooksbank proposed to Princess Eugenie while on vacation in Nicaragua with a pale pink padparadscha sapphire and diamond ring. Watch their first TV interview together:
