Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Soukhamthath was the first ever Lao-American MMA fighter signed to the UFC. Both of his parents are from Laos.

Martinez was originally from Los Angeles, California, United States. He is a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
“UFC Fight Night 138” marked Martinez’s UFC debut. He replaced Gavin “Guv’Nor” Tucker, 32, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada as Soukhamthath’s opponent.
Soukhamthath and Martinez competed in the bantamweight division at “UFC Fight Night 138.” Currently reigning as the UFC Bantamweight Champion is T.J. “The Viper” Dillashaw, 32, of Denver, Colorado, United States.
After three five-minute rounds, the bantamweight bout between Soukhamthath and Martinez was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, referee Jerin Valel raised the hand of the Lao-American contender, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “UFC Fight Night 138” improved Soukhamthath’s professional MMA record to 13 wins and 6 losses. On the other hand, losing to the Lao-American fighter downgraded Martinez’s record to 9 wins and 2 losses.

In the co-main event, Michael “The Menace” Johnson of Boca Raton, Florida, United States and Artem “The Russian Hammer” Lobov of Dublin, Ireland competed in a catch weight of 147 lbs. After three five-minute rounds, the American contender defeated his Russian-Irish opponent via unanimous decision.
In the main event, Volkan “No Time” Oezdemir of Fribourg, Switzerland and Anthony “Lionheart” Smith of Omaha, Nebraska, United States competed in the light heavyweight division. The American contender submitted his Swiss opponent via rear-naked choke at 4:26 of Round 3.
