Switzerland vs USA: Volkan Oezdemir, Anthony Smith fight at ‘UFC Fight Night 138’ in Canada

Featuring 13 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC Fight Night 138” took place at the Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on October 27, 2018. In the main event of the evening, Volkan “No Time” Oezdemir, 29, of Fribourg, Switzerland faced Anthony “Lionheart” Smith of Omaha, Nebraska, United States.

Blue Corner

Oezdemir, who is of Turkish descent, was born in Fribourg. He is a former kickboxing practitioner.

The Turkish-Swiss MMA fighter is training out of Combat Club. “UFC Fight Night 138” marked his fifth UFC bout.

Red Corner

Smith was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, United States. He is currently ranked number 10 in the UFC light heavyweight division.

Training out of Factory X, Smith is a brown belt in Brazlian Jiu-Jitsu. “UFC Fight Night 138” marked his ninth UFC bout.

Fight Results 

Oezdemir and Smith competed in the light heavyweight division. Currently reigning as the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion is Daniel “DC” Cormier, 39, of San Jose, California, United States.

Referee Yves Lavigne put a stop to the light heavyweight contest between Oezdemir and Smith at  4:26 of Round 3. The American contender submitted his Turkish-Swiss opponent via rear-naked choke.

In the co-main event, Michael “The Menace” Johnson of Boca Raton, Florida, United States and Artem “The Russian Hammer” Lobov of Dublin, Ireland competed in a catch weight of 147 lbs. After three five-minute rounds, the American contender defeated his Russian-Irish opponent via unanimous decision.
