‘Creed’ actor Tony Bellew: Nonito Donaire wouldn’t wanna win like that

On November 3, 2018, Ryan Burnett, 26, of Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom suffered his first loss as a professional boxer in the hands of Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, 35, San Leandro, California, United States. Among the boxers who felt bad for the former was his fellow British boxer Tony “Bomber” Bellew, 35, of Liverpool, Merseyside, U.K.

Donaire, who is of Filipino descent, challenged Burnett for the the World Boxing Association Super World Bantamweight title during the the semifinals of the World Boxing Super Series. The bout took place at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, U.K.

The Filipino-American challenger became the new WBA Super World Bantamweight Champion when Burnett’s team was forced to end the contest at 0:01 of Round 5 due to a back injury of the defending champion. To avoid any further injury, a stretcher was used to remove the British boxer from the action.

After dethroning Burnett, Donaire will challenge reigning World Boxing Organization World Bantamweight Champion Zolani “Last Born” Tete, 30, of Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, South Africa in the WBSS semifinals. The South African boxing champ successfully defended his WBO title from Mikhail Aloyan, 30, of Novosibirsk, Russia on October 13, 2018.

Burnett now holds a professional boxing record of 19 wins and 1 loss. Donaire now has 39 wins and 5 losses.

Competing professionally since 2007, Bellew has 30 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw. He is scheduled to face Oleksandr “The Cat” Usyk, 31, of Kiev, Ukraine for the WBA (Super), WBO, World Boxing Council, International Boxing Federation, The Ring and lineal cruiserweight titles.

In 2015, Bellew starred in the seventh “Rocky” film series installment “Creed.” He played a British boxer named Ricky “Pretty” Conlan, the world light heavyweight champion.

Michael B. Jordan played the title character Adonis Creed, an underdog light heavyweight boxer, in “Creed.” Directed by Coogler, the sports drama film also starred Sylvester Stallone as Robert ‘Rocky” Balboa Sr., Tessa Thompson as Bianca and Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed.

The film’s sequel “Creed II” will hit theaters on November 21, 2018. Bellew is no longer in the cast while Jordan, Stallone, Thompson and Rashad are reprising their respective roles.

Bellew is currently training with David Coldwell. Meanwhile, here is the “Creed” actor talking about Usyk:
