The 17th event of Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion Brave Combat Federation was the first ever global MMA event in Pakistan. In the co-main event of the evening, a Filipino fighter received respect from the crowd after defeating a hometown hero.
“Brave 17” took place at the Nistar Sports Complex in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan on October 27, 2018. Co-headlining the event were Jeremy “The Juggernaut” Pacatiw, 22, of Kapangan, Benguet, Philippines and Uloomi “Kratos” Karim, 27, of Islamabad, Pakistan.
Pacatiw is representing Team Lakay of Baguio City, Philippines while Karim is training out of Team Fight Fortress in Islamabad, Pakistan. The two battled it out in the bantamweight division.
After three five-minute rounds, Pacatiw was declared the winner via unanimous decision. Right after the announcement of the result, he and Karim showed respect to each other inside the cage.
Fight fans from Pakistan compared the “Brave 17” bout between Pacatiw and Karim to the final confrontation scene in the film “Creed,” the seventh installment of the “Rocky” film series. The sports drama film was released by Warner Bros. on November 25, 2015 in the United States.
“Creed” was directed by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay with Aaron Covington. With Michael B. Jordan playing the title character Adonis Creed, the cast also included former World Boxing Council Cruiserweight Champion Anthony “Bomber” Bellew, 35, of Liverpool, Merseyside, England as Ricky “Pretty” Conlan.
Creed is an underdog light heavyweight boxer. At the end of “Creed,” Jordan’s character fought Conlan, who is the world light heavyweight champion, in the hometown of the latter.
It was Conlan who won the fight via split decision. But Creed earned the respect of Conlan and the crowd.
Aside from Bellew, real-life boxers Andre “S.O.G.” Ward and Gabriel “Gabe” Rosado were also in the “Creed” cast. Among their co-stars were Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Graham McTavish, Wood Harris, Ritchie Coster, Brian Anthony Wilson and Tone Trump who played himself.
On November 21, 2018, Warner Bros. will release “Creed II” internationally. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer will release the sports drama film sequel in the U.S. on the same date.
Meanwhile, the “Brave 17” co-main event fight result improved Pacatiw’s professional MMA record to 5 wins and 3 losses while downgrading Karim’s record to 5 wins and 5 losses. Watch their full bout here:
