South Korea vs USA: Chan Sung Jung, Yair Rodriguez fight at ‘UFC Fight Night 139’

The Ultimate Fighting Championship held “UFC Fight Night 139” at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, United States on November 10, 2018. The fight card featured 12 mixed martial arts matches, three of which were female matches.

In the main event, Chan Sung “The Korean Zombie” Jung, 31, of Seoul, South Korea faced Yair “El Pantera” Rodriguez, 26, of Chicago, Illinois, United States. They competed in the featherweight division.

Blue Corner

Jung was born in Pohang, South Korea on March 17, 1987. He is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt and he is representing Korean Zombie MMA.

The South Korean MMA fighter has been competing professionally since 2007. “UFC Fight Night 139” marked his sixth bout in the UFC.

Red Corner

Rodriguez was born in Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico on October 6, 1992. His taekwondo training started when he was five years old and he is now a taekwondo black belt.

The Mexican-American MMA fighter has been competing professional since 2011. “UFC Fight Night 139” marked his eighth bout in the UFC.

Fight Result

Referee Kevin MacDonald put a stop to the featherweight bout between Jung and Rodriguez at 4:59 of Round 5. The Mexican-American contender knocked out his Korean opponent via elbow.

Winning at “UFC Fight Night 139” improved Rodriguez’s professional MMA record to 11 wins and 2 losses. It was a redemptive win for him after his technical knockout loss to Frankie “The Answer” Edgar, 37, of Toms River, New Jersey, United States at “UFC 211” on May 13, 2017.

On the other hand, Jung now has 14 wins and 5 losses. He has 4 wins and 2 losses in the UFC.

“UFC Fight Night 139” Co-Main Event

In the co-main event of the evening, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, 35, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States and Mike “Platinum” Perry, 27, of Orlando, Florida, United States battled it out in the welterweight division. The fighter from Albuquerque submitted his opponent from Orlando via armbar at 4:46 of Round 1.
