Reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, of La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines is currently in Metro Manila, Philippines to support the upcoming bout of his Team Lakay teammate Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 35, of Baguio City, Philippines. The latter will face Amir Khan, 24, of Singapore at “ONE: Conquest of Champions.”
Folayang and Khan had their first face-off during the “ONE: Conquest of Champions” open workout at the Victory Sports Tower in Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila on November 16, 2018. Their second face-off took place during the kick-off press conference on November 20, 2018 at the City of Dreams Manila in Parañaque City, Metro Manila.
After the press conference, I had a short interview with Pacio. I asked him about his prediction for the upcoming championship bout between Folayang and Khan.
“I think this will be a back-and-forth action, an explosive one,” Pacio told me. “I think this will go the distance.”
Expectedly, like the Filipino fight fans, Pacio is rooting for Folayang. The latter held the ONE Lightweight World Championship belt from November 11, 2016 to November 10, 2017.
Folayang successfully defended the belt against Ev “E.T.” Ting, 29, of New Zealand and Malaysia at “ONE: Kings of Destiny” on April 21, 2017 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. In the same venue, the Filipino MMA superfighter lost the belt to Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam.
On September 28, 2018, Nguyen vacated the ONE Lightweight World Championship because he is unable to defend it due to an injury. He is still the reigning ONE Featherweight World Champion.
“ONE: Conquest of Champions” will take place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila on November 23, 2018. In the co-main event of the evening, Folayang and Khan will compete for the vacant ONE Lightweight World Championship.
Aside from Pacio, two more ONE Championship world champions representing Team Lakay are expected to watch the “ONE: Conquest of Champions” fight night live namely ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 29, of Baguio City and ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 31, of Kiangan, Ifugao, Philippines.
