Featuring one kickboxing contest, four Muay Thai matches and nine mixed martial arts bouts, “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” was first of the four ONE Championship events in the Philippines in 2019. In the ninth bout of the evening, Kingad faced Tatsumitsu Wada of Japan in an MMA bout in the flyweight decision.

In a spirited clash between two top flyweight contenders, Kingad turned in a well-rounded performance, defeating Wada of Japan by unanimous decision. For three full rounds, it was the former ONE World Title challenger who got the better of the standup exchanges.

When the action hit the mat, Kingad also displayed superior grappling skills. In the end, all three judges scored the bout in favor of the Team Lakay fighter, who earned a spot in the highly-anticipated ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix with the win.

Beating Wada at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” improved Kingad’s professional MMA record to 11 wins and 1 loss. He has been competing professionally since 2014.

Kingad defeated his first three opponents in ONE Championship namely Muhamad Haidar of Malaysia, Eugene Toquero, 36, of the Philippines and “The Jungle Cat” Muhammad Aiman, 23, of Malaysia. On November 10, 2017, the Team Lakay fighter unsuccessfully challenged reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes, 29, of Brazil at “ONE: Legends of the World.”
