The Unicorn sang “I Love It” by the Swedish DJ duo Icona Pop featuring British recording artist Charlie XCX in her solo performance on “The Masked Singer” Season 1 episode 5 titled “Mix and Masks.” She was the second to perform among the four mystery celebrity contestants on the episode.
Released on May 9, 2012, “I Love It” was first released in Sweden as a digital download. It was later added to Icona Pop’s eponymous debut studio album.
In the group performance on “Mix and Masks,” the Unicorn performed “On Top of the World” by Imagine Dragons with the Lion, the Alien and the Rabbit. It marked the first group performance for the Fox reality singing competition show’s first season.
“I’m proud of the hills where I come from,” the Unicorn said in her introduction video. She mentioned that she was crafting a new identity and being in “The Masked Singer” makes her feel like she is in heaven although performing in front of people has always been her biggest fear.
Viewers saw images of the Unicorn knitting. She was also shown at a piano and she said she could do cartwheels.
Joel McHale was no longer as a guest panelist on “Mix and Masks.” He joined resident panelists Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy on the third and fourth episodes “Five Masks No More” and “Another Mask Bites the Dust,” which aired on Fox on January 16, 2019 and January 23, 2019, respectively.
On “Mix and Masks,” each masked singer brought an object to help reveal who they are. The Unicorn brought a typewriter, which made Jeong think that she is old.
McCarthy said the Unicorn was more confident with her performance of “I Love It” and guessed she could be Lauren Conrad. Thicke, Scherzinger and Jeong’s respective guesses were Gabby Douglas, Denise Richards and Tori Spelling.
After receiving the lowest votes, the Unicorn unmasked herself at the end of the episode and revealed herself to be Spelling. Watch her performance of “I Love It” by Icona Pop featuring Charlie XCX here:
