Teddy Locsin Jr: Taho Girl Jiale Zhang is not encroaching in Philippine national territory

One of the Filipinos who downplayed the issue involving Chinese woman Jiale “Carla” Zhang, 23, dubbed the Taho Girl, is Department of Foreign Affairs secretary Teodoro “Teddy” Locsin Jr., 70. On February 10, 2019, the former journalist took to Twitter to point out that the woman who threw a cup of taho at a cop is not encroaching in the national territory of the Philippines.

On February 9, 2019, mugshots of Zhang went viral after being charged with direct assault, disobedience to agent or person in authority and unjust vexation. She was arrested after throwing a cup of taho or soy bean custard drink at PO1 William Cristobal of the Philippine National Police Regional Mobile Force Battalion’s 4th Mobile Company inside the Boni MRT station in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

Earlier that day, MRT security officers asked Zhang to consume the taho drink before the entering the train station. She was not cooperative so Cristobal had to intervene.

Zhang has apologized while behind bars inside the Mandaluyong City Police Station. She said she was in a bad mood and was not able to control her emotions.

The Bureau of Immigration has recommended the filing of a deportation case against Zhang. In a statement obtained by CNN Philippines, the bureau’s spokesperson Dana Sandoval stated, “The BI can file a case motu proprio, especially since there are photos showing what happened.”

Currently studying fashion at the SoFA Design Institute in Makati City, Metro Manila, Zhang has been living in the Philippines for more than six years. She arrived in Manila in October 2018 with a Special Resident Retiree’s Visa, according to the BI.

Days before Zhang’s mugshots went viral, Locsin responded to former president Benigno Aquino III’s call for a review of the influx of Chinese workers in the Philippines. For the DFA secretary, there is no need to make an issue about the Chinese workers since they are only working in the country in online gaming that requires Mandarin.

Meanwhile, here is Zhang apologizing for her behavior involving taho, a train station and a Filipino cop:
