Wales’ Jack Marshman earns 3rd UFC win at ‘UFC Fight Night 147’ in London, England

Fighting out of Abertillery, Gwent, Wales, Jack “The Hammer” Marshman, 29, was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 147.” It was his third victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts bouts, “UFC Fight Night 147” took place at The 02 Arena in London, England on March 16, 2019. In the seventh bout of the evening, Marshman faced John “The Welsh Wrecking Machine” Phillips, 33, of Swansea, Wales at a catch weight of 188 lbs.

Marc Goddard served as the referee of the catchweight bout between the two Welsh mixed martial artists. After three five-minute rounds, the contest was left in the hands of the judges.

In the end, Goddard raised the hand of Marshman, who was declared the winner via split decision. One judge scored the bout 28-29 in favor of Phillips while the two other judges both scored it 29-28 in favor of Marshman.

Winning at “UFC Fight Night 147” improved Marshman’s professional MMA record to 23 wins and 8 losses. On the other hand, Phillips now has 21 wins and 9 losses.

When Marshman made her UFC debut at “UFC Fight Night 99” at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland on November 19, 2016, he knocked out Magnus “Jycken” Cedenblad, 36, of Stockholm, Sweden. On July 16, 2017, Marshman defeated Ryan Janes, 37, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada via unanimous decision at “UFC Fight Night 113” at The SSE Hydro in Glagow, Scotland.

The main event of “UFC Fight Night 147” was a welterweight bout between Darren “The Gorilla” Till, 26, of Liverpool, Merseyside, England and Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal, 34, of Miami, Florida, United States. The American fighter, who is of Cuban and Peruvian descent, knocked out his English opponent in the second round.

In the co-main event Leon “Rocky” Edwards, 27, of Erdington, Birmingham, England faced Gunnar “Gunni” Nelson, 30, of Reykjavik, Iceland in the welterweight division. The English contender won via split decision.

Including Wales, the U.S. and Iceland, a total of 11 countries were represented at “UFC Fight Night 147.” Marshman and Phillips were the only representatives of Wales.

The other countries represented at “UFC Fight Night 147” were Brazil, Ireland, Mexico, Romania, Russia, Scotland and Switzerland. Watch the full post-fight press conference here:
