Bucharest, Romania’s Andrei Stoica earns 1st ONE Super Series win at ‘ONE: Roots of Honor’ in Manila, Philippines

Fighting out of Bucharest, Romania, Andrei “Mister KO” Stoica, 31, was one of the winners at “ONE: Roots of Honor.” It was his first victory in ONE Championship’s striking-only league ONE Super Series.

Featuring two kickboxing contests, two Muay Thai bouts and 11 mixed martial arts matches, “ONE: Roots of Honor” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 12, 2019. In the 11th bout of the evening, Stoica faced Ibrahim “Mr. Cool” El Bouni, 26, of Morocco and the Netherlands in a kickboxing contest in the light heavyweight division with Elias Dolaptsis as the referee.

The kickboxing bout was paused twice. Stoica hit El Bouni first with groin attack then with eye poke but the Moroccan-Dutch contender chose to continue in both incidents without completing the 5-minute period to recover from injury.

After three three-minute rounds, the kickboxing contest was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Dolaptsis raised the hand of Stoica, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Winning at “ONE: Roots of Honor” improved Stoica’s professional kickboxing record to 50 wins, 12 losses and 1 No Contest. On the other hand, El Bouni now has 37 wins, 8 losses and 1 draw.

It was a redemptive win for Stoica. “ONE: Roots of Honor” marked his second ONE Super Series bout.

On March 8, 2019, Stoica made his ONE Super Series debut at “ONE: Reign of Valor” at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar. He lost via unanimous decision to Tarik Khbabez, 26, of Morocco.

At “ONE: Roots of Honor,” Stoica solely Romania. Also, El Bouni was the only fighter to represent Morocco and the Netherlands.

Including Romania, Morocco and the Netherlands, 18 countries were represented at “ONE: Roots of Honor.” The other countries were Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, China, Cuba, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, the Philippines, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and the United States.
