How Eldar Eldarov met Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov

In 2015, Russian mixed martial artist Eldar “Khan” Eldarov, 27, moved to Bahrain. He hails from Dagestan, Russia where he developed his world-class wrestling skills and trained combat sambo under the tutelage of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father of reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 30.

Currently, Eldarov holds a professional MMA record of 10 wins and 1 loss. The only opponent he did not defeat was the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion.

Khabib and Eldarov are childhood friends. The former is an undefeated MMA fighter who has 27 wins and 0 loss.

Now based in Bahrain, Eldarov is the head coach position at the famous KHK MMA gym in Manama, Bahrain. He is also coaching the Bahraini national MMA team and is signed with Bahrain-based MMA promotion Brave Combat Federation.

“When I was 14 years old, my older brother introduced me to my coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who was the national coach for combat sambo,” Eldarov recalled. “Until now, he’s the best martial arts coach in Dagestan in Russia and I could say in the world. He’s in my corner in all of my fights.”

Eldarov remembers his early days with fondness despite having a strict schedule to make sure he would practice his wrestling as well as having time to study. He shared, “I started training at age 6 and went to school at 7.”

“It is a tradition that kids always have to do sports in Dagestan but not just that, we had to study too,” Eldarov continued. “My father was very strict to me but I finished university and I’m a lawyer too. It wasn’t just about sports.”

“I studied and trained,” Eldarov added. “Some people become successful in sports, others don’t. But we all start in sports.”

On April 19, 2019, Eldarov will compete for the inaugural Brave CF Super Lightweight Championship title. For him to win the belt, he has to defeat undefeated fighter Mounir “The Sniper” Lazzez, 31, of Tunisia at “Brave 23: Pride and Honor” at the Al-Hussein Youth City Boxing Arena in Amman, Jordan.
