Drex “T-Rex” Zamboanga, 29, of the Philippines is still the URCC Global Bantamweight Championship. He successfully defended his belt at “URCC Global: Raw Fury,” the first event of the Philippines-based mixed martial arts promotion URCC Global in 2019.
Featuring 10 MMA matches, “URCC Global: Raw Fury” took place at The Cove at Okada Manila in Parañaque City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 27, 2019. In the fourth bout of the evening, “The Sniper” Seung Hyun Cho, 26, of South Korea challenged the reigning URCC Global Bantamweight Champion.
Florence Eusebio served as the referee of the contest. Zamboanga landed a knee to Cho’s face a few seconds before the end of the first round.
The Korean challenger survived the round but he was bleeding profusely and was deemed unfit to continue. In the end, Eusebio raised the hand of Zamboanga, who was declared the winner via doctor stoppage.
Zamboanga was among the 17 hometown heroes who competed at “URCC Global: Raw Fury” while Cho was one of the two fighters who represented South Korea. China, Japan, Switzerland and the United States were also represented.
“URCC Global: Raw Fury” marked the second URCC Global bout of Cho, who has been competing professionally since 2016. In his promotional debut at “URCC BETS VIII” at the Casino Filipino in Manila on December 12, 2018, he knocked out Jun Fagyan of the Philippines.
Zamboanga has been competing professionally since 2013. “URCC Global: Raw Fury” marked his ninth URCC Global bout.
Including Cho, Zamboanga defeated seven opponents in URCC Global from 2014 to 2019. The others are all Filipino fighters namely Ramonito Pabroa, Joseph Mercado, John Oliver, Renato Jabiniao, Dennis Domingo, Sem Bicaldo and Rex “T-Rex” de Lara.
Winning at “URCC Global: Raw Fury” improved the professional MMA record of Zamboanga to 8 wins and 5 losses. On the other hand, Cho now has 5 wins and 2 losses.
