Jared Cannonier earns 5th UFC win, beats Anderson Silva at ‘UFC 237’ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Fighting out of Phoenix, Arizona, United States, Jarred “The Killa Gorilla” Cannonier, 30, was one of the winners at “UFC 237.” It was his fifth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 237” took place at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro on May 11, 2019. In the co-main event of the evening, Cannonier fought Anderson “The Spider” Silva, 44, of Sao Paulo, Brazil in the middleweight division with Herb Dean as the referee.

Dean put a stop to the middleweight contest after 4 minutes and 49 seconds in the first round. He raised the hand of Cannonier, who was declared the winner via technical knockout due to leg injury.

Winning at “UFC 237″improved Cannonier’s professional MMA record to 12 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Silva now has 34 wins, 10 losses and 1 No Contest.

“UFC 237” marked Cannonier’s ninth UFC outing. The opponents he defeated in the promotion before Silva were Cyril “Silverback” Asker, 33, of Nimes, France, Ion “The Hulk” Cutelaba, 25, of Chișinău, Moldova, Nick Roehrick, 31, of North Carolina, USA and David Branch, 37, of Brooklyn, New York, USA.

While Silva was one of the 14 fighters who represented the Brazil at “UFC 237,” Cannonier was one of the six fighters who represented the U.S. The other countries represented were Argentina, Australia, Mexico and Peru.

Born on March 3, 1984 in Dallas, Texas, USA, Cannonier has been competing professionally since 2011. He joined the UFC in 2015.

Cannonier trains out of Anchorage Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Gracie Barra Alaska in Anchorage, Alaska, USA. He is now riding a two-bout winning streak.

The last time Cannonier lost in the UFC octagon was on May 19, 2018. He was knocked out via punches by Dominic “The Devastator” Reyes, 29, of California, USA at “UFC Fight Night 129” at the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile.
