
Fighting out of Beijing, China, Xiaonan “Fury” Yan, 29, was one of the winners at “UFC 238.” It was the fourth victory of the Chinese mixed martial artist in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 13 MMA matches, “UFC 238” took place at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, United States on June 8, 2019. In the fourth bout of the evening, Yan competed in the women’s strawweight division against Angela “Overkill” Hill, 32, of San Diego, California, USA with Rob Madrigal as the referee.
Hill almost finished Yan via a triangle choke in the first round. But the Chinese contender survived and redeemed herself in the second round with successful attacks.
In the third round, Hill’s striking attack was more varied. However, Yan was the busier fighter.
After three five-minute rounds, the strawweight contest was left in the hands of the three judges, who scored it 29-28, 29-28 and 29-28. In the end, Madrigal raised the hand of Yan, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “UFC 238” improved the professional MMA record of Yan to 11 wins, 1 loss, 0 draw and 1 No Contest. On the other hand, Hill now has 9 wins and 7 losses.
“Angela Hill is a very tough opponent,” Yan said after her “UFC 238” victory. “I deserve a ranked opponent next, I don’t want to call anyone out. But I want to make into that top 10.”
Including China and the U.S., 11 countries were represented at “UFC 238.” The other countries were Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, England, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Russia and Scotland.
Born in Shenyang, Liaoning, China on June 16, 1989, Yan went to Xi’an Sports University in Xi’an, China.
As an MMA fighter, Yan has been competing professionally since 2009. She joined the UFC in 2017, making her the first Chinese female fighter signed by the promotion.
Before facing Hill, Yan defeated her first three opponents in the UFC namely Kaillin Curran, 28, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, USA, Viviane “Sucuri” Pereira, 25, of Ceará, Brazil and Syuri Kondo, 30, of Yokohama, Japan. Meanwhile, watch the “UFC 238” weigh-ins here:
