Fighting out of Guadalajara, Mexico, Alexa Grasso, 25, was one of the winners at “UFC 238.” It was the third victory of the Mexican mixed martial artist in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 13 MMA matches, “UFC 238” took place at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, United States on June 8, 2019. In the sixth bout of the evening, Grasso competed in the women’s strawweight division against Karolina Kowalkiewicz, 33, of Lodz, Poland with Kevin MacDonald as the referee.
Right in the first round, Grasso outperformed Kowalkiewicz with strikes. The Polish contender managed to survive and answer every shot from her Mexican opponent.
After three five-minute rounds, the strawweight contest was left in the hands of the three judges, who scored it 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27. In the end, MacDonald raised the hand of Grasso, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “UFC 238” improved the professional MMA record of Grasso to 11 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Kowalkiewicz now has 12 wins and 5 losses.
Including Mexico, Poland and the U.S., 11 countries were represented at “UFC 238.” The other countries were Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, England, Peru, Russia and Scotland.
Born in Guadalajara on August 9, 1993, Grasso is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. As an MMA fighter, she has been competing professionally since 2012.
When Grasso made her UFC debut on November 5, 2016, she defeated Heather “Hurricane” Clark, 38, of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA via unanimous decision. On February 4, 2017, the Mexican fighter she lost via unanimous decision to Felice “The Lil Bulldog” Herrig, 34, of Schaumburg, Illinois, USA.
On August 5, 2017, Grasso earned second win in the promotion by defeating Randa “Quiet Storm” Marcos, 33, of Quebec, Canada via split decision. On May 19, 2018, the Guadalajara native was submitted via rear-naked choke by Tatiana Suarez, 28, of Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA.
