Fighting out of Yekaterinburg, Omsk, Russia, Petr “No Mercy” Yan, 26, was one of the winners at “UFC 238.” It was the fifth victory of the Russian mixed martial artist in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 13 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 238” took place at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, United States on June 8, 2019. In the 10th bout of the evening, Yan competed in the bantamweight division against Jimmie “El Terror” Rivera, 29, of Ramsey, New Jersey, USA with Kevin MacDonald as the referee.
The first round started with Rivera dominating the fight with his striking but it ended with Yan’s hard left hook that dropped his American opponent. In the second round, the American contender was in control in the first minutes but it ended with a hard uppercut from the Russian contender.
In the third round, Rivera landed several hard shorts. Yan responded with effective punches and kicks.
After three five-minute rounds, the bantamweight contest was left in the hands of the three judges, who scored it 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27. In the end, MacDonald raised the hand of Yan, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “UFC 238” improved the professional MMA record of Suarez to 13 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Rivera now has 22 wins and 4 losses.
Including Russia and the U.S., 11 countries were represented at “UFC 238.” The other countries were Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, England, Mexico, Peru, Poland and Scotland.
Born in Dudinka, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia on February 11, 1983, Yan started his training in taekwondo when she was in grade school. He earned a degree in Physical Culture and Sport from the Siberian Federal University in Omsk.
As an MMA fighter, Yan has been competing professionally since 2013. He joined the UFC in 2018.
