Koyomi “Moushigo” Matsushima, 26, of Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan was one of the winners at “ONE: Legendary Quest.” It was the Japanese mixed martial artist’s second victory in ONE Championship.
Featuring three Muay Thai matches, two kickboxing contests and nine MMA bouts, “ONE: Legendary Quest” took place at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China on June 15, 2019. In the 10th bout of the evening, Matsushima fought “Pretty Boy” Kwon Won Il, 23, of South Korea in an MMA bout in the featherweight division with Kemp Cheng as the referee.
After three five-minute rounds, the featherweight bout was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Cheng raised the hand of Matsushima, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “ONE: Legendary Quest” improved the professional MMA record of Matsushima to 11 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Kwon now has 7 wins and 2 losses.
Matsushima was one of the three athletes who represented Japan at “ONE: Legendary Quest” while Kwon was one of the three representatives of South Korea. Australia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, Myanmar, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Scotland, Thailand and the United Kingdom were also represented.
On June 12, 2019, Matsushima and Kwon had their official face-off during the press conference at Yunspace in Shanghai. The event was graced by ONE Championship Greater China chairman Hua Fung Teh and reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 31, of China.
Born on October 8, 1992 in Yokohama, Matsushima started his martial arts training with Kyokushin karate. As an MMA fighter, he has been competing professionally since 2015.
Training out of Pancrase ISM Yokohama, Matsushima made his ONE Championship debut on September 22, 2018 and beat former ONE Featherweight World Champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov, 34, of Makhachkala, Russia. “ONE: Legendary Quest” marked the Japanese fighter’s second bout in the promotion.
