Fighting out of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, Amanda “Lioness” Nunes, 31, successfully defended her title as the reigning champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s women’s bantamweight division. She knocked out her challenger Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm, 37, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States at “UFC 239.”

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 239” took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, USA on July 6, 2019. In the co-main event of the evening, Holm challenged the reigning UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, who is also the reigning UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion.

Marc Goddard served as the referee of the title bout between Nunes and Holm. He put a stop to the contest after 4 minutes and 10 seconds when the Brazilian defending champion knocked out her American challenger via head kick and punches.

“People say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but this belt is going home with me,” Nunes said in her post-fight interview with commentator Joe Rogan in the octagon. “During my warmup, I knew I was going to get her. I told my coaches I wanted to knock her out the same way she knocks people out. I did it tonight. She was the only former champion I didn’t beat yet. Now, I beat her and I’m very happy.”

Winning at “UFC 239” improved the professional MMA record of Nunes to 18 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Holm now has 12 wins and 5 losses.

“UFC 239” marked the 11th victory of Nunes in the UFC. She defeated Holm, Sheila Gaff, Germaine de Randamie, Shayna Baszler, Sara McMann, Miesha Tate, Raquel Pennington, Cristiane Justino in the promotion once and Valentina Shevchenko twice.
