Warsaw, Poland’s Jan Blachowicz earns 7th UFC win, knocks out Luke Rockhold at ‘UFC 239’ in Nevada

Fighting out of Warsaw, Poland, Jan “Prince of Cieszyn” Błachowicz, 36, was one of the winners at “UFC 239.” It was his seventh victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 239” took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, USA on July 6, 2019. In the ninth bout of the evening, Blachowicz fought Luke Rockhold, 34, of San Jose, California, United States in the light heavyweight division with Herb Dean as the referee.

Dean put a stop to the light heavyweight contest after 1 minute and 39 seconds in the second round. Blachowicz knocked out Rockhold via punches.

Winning at “UFC 239” improved the professional MMA record of Blachowicz to 24 wins and 8 losses. On the other hand, Rockhold now has 16 wins and 5 losses.

Blachowicz celebrated his “UFC 239” victory in the octagon with his teammates Robert Złotkowski, Robert Jocz and Sebastian Kurek. In the post-fight interview in the octagon, commentator Joe Rogan asked Blachowicz, “How satisfying was it giving all the trash talk that you had to absorb leading up to this fight?”

“Trash talk is not working on me,” Blachowicz replied. “I’m too old for it. I’m from Poland. I show the legendary Polish power and I’m proud of it.”

Born in Cieszyn, Poland on February 24, 1983, Blachowicz is a plumber and civil engineering technician by trade. He made his professional MMA debut in 2007 and joined the UFC in 2014.

Including Rockhold, Blachowicz defeated seven opponents in the UFC. The others were Ilir Latifi, Igor Pokrajac, Devin Clark, Jared Cannonier, Jimi Manuwa and Nikita Krylov.
