Leandro “Brodinho” Issa, 35, and Samara “Marituba” Santos, 26, are the two representatives of Brazil at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes.” It is the third ONE Championship event in 2019 to take place in the Philippines.
ONE Championship will hold “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on August 2, 2019. The other countries that will be represented are Australia, Brazil, China, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
On the fight card are 13 MMA matches and two Muay Thai matches. In the second bout of the evening, Santos will compete in an MMA match in the women’s strawweight division against Ayaka Miura, 28, of Japan.
This will be the second ONE Championship bout of Santos, who hails Marituba, Para, Brazil. She looks to redeem herself from her loss in her promotional debut in 2018 to “The Panda” Xiong Jingnan, 31, of China, who is now the reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion.
In the sixth bout of “ONE: Dawn of Heroes,” Issa will compete in an MMA bout in the bantamweight division. His opponent is Daichi Takenaka, 29, of Japan.
Hailing from Ubatuba, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Issa was 14 years old when he started his training in capoeira, kung fu, and judo before taking up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As a professional MMA fighter, he has been competing professionally since 2006.
Training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore, Issa joined ONE Championship in 2011. “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marks his 10th bout in the promotion.
In the main event of the evening, Koyomi “Moushigo” Matsushima, 26, of Japan will challenge ONE Featherweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 30, and Reece “Lightning” McLaren, 27, of Australia and Vietnam. In the co-main event, “The Iron Man” Rodtang Jitmuangon, 22, of Thailand will challenge reigning ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Jonathan “The General” Haggerty, 22, of the U.K.
