Nate Diaz earns 15th UFC win, decisions Anthony Pettis at ‘UFC 241’ in Anaheim, California

Fighting out of Stockton, California, United States, Nate Diaz, 34, was one of the winners at “UFC 241.” It was the Mexican-American mixed martial artist’s 15th victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 12 professional MMA bouts, “UFC 241” took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA on August 17, 2019. In the co-main event of the evening, Diaz fought Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, 32, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA in the welterweight division with Mike Beltran as the referee.

In the first round, Diaz was the aggressor although he was getting countered well by Pettis. The former got the fight to the mat before the round ended.

In the second round, Diaz got the fight to the mat again. When they stood up, the Stockton native kept the pressure as his opponent from Milwaukee slowed down.

In the third round, Diaz hurt Pettis with knees and sent the fight to the mat again. The former took his opponent’s back but in the final seconds, the latter reversed position.

After three five-minute rounds, the welterweight bout was left in the hands of the judges, who scored it 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28. In the end, Beltran raised the hand of Diaz, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

“I want to defend my title against Jorge,” Diaz said in his post-fight interview, referring to Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal, 34, of Miami, Florida, USA. “He’s a gangster, but he ain’t no West Coast gangster.”

Winning at “UFC 241” improved the professional MMA record of Diaz to 20 wins and 11 losses. On the other hand, Pettis now has 22 wins and 9 losses.

Born in Stockton on April 16, 1985, Diaz has been competing professionally since 2004 and he joined the UFC in 2007. He defeated his first four opponents in the promotion namely Junior Assuncao, Alvin Robinson, Kurt Pellegrino and Josh Neer.

Before “UFC 241,” Yusuff defeated 10 two opponents in the UFC. The others were Melvin Guillard, Rory Markham, Marcus Davis, Takanori Gomi, Donald Cerrone, Jim Miller, Gray Maynard, Michael Johnson and Conor McGregor.

Seven countries were represented at “UFC 241” namely Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Nigeria, South Korea and the U.S. Pettis and Diaz were two of the 17 representatives of the U.S.
