Starring Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, the fourth installment of “The Matrix” will be directed by Lana Wachowski. This was announced by Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich announced on August 20, 2019.
“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana,” Variety quoted Emmerich as saying. “Lana is a true visionary, a singular and original creative filmmaker, and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
Wachowski will co-produce “Matrix 4” with Grant Hill. The former will co-write the film with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.
“The Matrix” film series was created by Wachowski and her sister Lilly Wachowski. They are both trans women.
The first installment was released in 1999. Both of the two sequels namely “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions” were released in 2003.
Born on June 21, 1965 as Laurence Wachowski, Lana attended Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, United States. She dropped out before graduating.
Lana and Lilly are collectively known as The Wachowskis. Their uncle Laurence George Luckinbill is an actor, playwright and director.
Born in Beirut, Lebanon on September 2, 1964, Reeves was a successful ice hockey goalkeeper at De La Salle College in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His father Samuel Nowlin Reeves, Jr. is Chinese, Hawaiian, English, Irish and Portuguese while his mother Patricia Taylor Reeves is English.
In 2018, Keanu starred in “Siberia,” “Destination Wedding” and “Replicas.” He recently starred in “John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum” and “Always be My Maybe.”
Born on August 21, 1967 in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, Moss attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. She then moved to Europe to pursue a career in modelling.
Moss played Detective Shaw in “The Bye Bye Man” in 2017. She recently played FBI Special Agent Maggie Smith in “Wisting” Season 1 and Rebecca in “Tell Me a Story” Season 2.
