Makati City has two representatives in Miss World Philippines 2019. One of them is candidate number 21 Michelle Marquez Dee, 24.
On August 29, 2019, the 40 candidates of Miss World Philippines 2019 were presented to the members of the press at Novotel Manila Araneta Center in Quezon City, Metro Manila. During the event, I asked Dee to share one thing about the city she is representing that she is proud of.
“I was born here in the Philippines but I was raised in the States and ever since I moved back here I’ve been a Makati girl,” Dee shared. “I, I’ve never known any, I’ve never lived anywhere else than Makati and even though so many people dislike Makati because of the traffic or because it’s always, let’s say, magulo (chaotic), but I, I love the tenacity of the people that are there. I love the fact that everyone feels so driven and everybody has their own purpose.”
A first class highly urbanized city in Metro Manila, Makati City is the financial center of the Philippines. The city’s current mayor is Abigal Binay and it has 33 barangays.
“Everybody (in Makati) just inspires me,” Dee shared. “It kinda reminds me of whenever I walk the streets of New York where everybody is so passionate about what they do, where everybody really just has their own place, and that they’re really fighting for their place and that’s why I really love Makati and that’s why I’m really proud to represent the city. Thank you.”
Miss International 2019 marks the firs beauty pageant Dee is joining. She is the daughter of Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez and Derek Dee.
On September 15, 2019, Miss World Philippines 2018 Katarina Rodriguez will crown her successor at the Miss World Philippines 2019 coronation night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila. It will air live on GMA network.
