Karol Rosa earns 1st UFC win at ‘UFC Fight Night 157,’ beats Lara Fritzen Procopio in Shenzen, Guangdong, China

Karol Rosa, 24, of Vila Velha, Espirito Santo, Brazil was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 157,” which is also known as “UFC on ESPN+ 15.″ It was her first victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 11 professional mixed martial arts bouts, “UFC Fight Night 157” took place at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre Arena in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China on August 31, 2019. In the first bout of the evening, Rosa competed in the women’s bantamweight division against Lara Fritzen Procopio, 23, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Thomas Fann served as the referee. After three five-minute rounds, the contest was left in the hands of the judges, who scored it 28-29, 30-27 and 29-28.

In the end, Fann raised the hand of Rosa, who was declared the winner via split decision. It marked Procopio’s first professional MMA loss.

Winning at “UFC Fight Night 157” improved the professional MMA record of Rosa to 12 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Procopio now has 6 wins and 1 loss.

Eight countries were represented at “UFC Fight Night 157” namely Brazil, China, Japan, Mongolia, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea and the United States. Rosa and Procopio were two of the five representatives of Brazil.

Both Rosa and Procopio made their UFC debut at “UFC Fight Night 157.” The former is training out of Paraná Vale Tudo in Paraná, Brazil while the latter trains out of Nova União in Rio de Janeiro.

Rosa was born in Brazil on December 30, 1994 and she has been competing professionally since 2012. Before joining the UFC, she competed in Haidar Capixaba Combat, Capixaba Fight, The Start Combat, Aspera Fighting Championship, Curitiba Top Fight, New Corpore Extreme, Buzios Fight Night, Watch Out Combat Show, Favela Kombat, Nacao Cyborg, MMA Brutus, and Future Fighting Championships.

In the main event of “UFC Fight Night 157,” “Magnum” Zhang Weili, 30, became the new UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion, making her the first ever UFC champion of Chinese descent. She dethroned defending champion Jéssica “Bate Estaca” Andrade, 27, of Parana, Brazil via a first-round knockout.

In the co-main event, Elizeu “Capoiera” Zaleski dos Santos, 32, of Curitiba, Parana, Brazil and “The Leech” Li Jingliang, 31,of Xinjiang, China competed in the welterweight division. The Chinese contender knocked out his Brazilian opponent via punches in the third round.
