UFC fighter Kai Kara-France recalls loss to Danaa Batgerel in Legend FC

Batgerel Danaa, 30, of Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia defeated Kai “Don’t Blink” Kara-France, 26, of Auckland, New Zealand at “Legend FC 11” on April 27, 2013. On August 31, 2019, they competed in different bouts at “UFC Fight Night 157.”

Legend Fighting Championship held “Legend FC 11” at the Chin Woo Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It featured 12 professional MMA bouts.

In the fourth bout of the evening, Kara-France lost to Batgerel via unanimous decision. In the 11th bout, Li “The Leech” Jingliang, 31, of Beijing, China submitted Luke “The Jedi” Jumeau, 31, of Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand via guillotine choke.

Danaa, Kara-France, Li and Jumeau are now signed with the UFC. In the co-main event of “UFC Fight Night 157,” which took place  at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre Arena in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China on August 31, 2019, Li knocked out Elizeu “Capoiera” Zaleski dos Santos, 32, of Curitiba, Parana, Brazil.

Kara-France had a laugh about his days with Legend FC. He won one of his three bouts in the Hong Kong-based mixed martial arts promotion from 2012 to 2013.

“I’d just turned 18 and now look,” Kara-France recalled. “Here in Shenzhen, we have The Leech and Batgerel, who I lost to with Legend FC so it’s funny how well as the guys have gone since.”

Years before becoming reigning UFC Middleweight Champion, Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker, 28, of Sydney, Australia also competed in Legend FC. He was submitted by Hoon Kim, 39, of South Africa via triangle choke at “Legend FC 6″at the City of Dreams Grand Hyatt Ballroom in Cotai, Macau, China on October 30, 2011.

“Every big name in Asia was with Legend FC,” Kara-France declared. “You can trace the rise of MMA in Asia through what they did right back then and just how talented these guys were. They just needed a bit more work and a bit more exposure.”

“Now they have all matured into top-level and world-class athletes,” the Kiwi MMA fighter continued. “Just look at the kind of fighter Robert Whittaker has become. He’s a UFC champion. It’s cool to look back and see that I was part of that.”

Kara-France believes Legend FC was all about building a base on which to build his career. He said, “It got me prepared for what was to come, (including) travelling overseas, having to get used to different cultures and different food, not having the comforts of home.”

“It made me break out of my shell and it made me grow up, I guess,” Kara-France continued. “It’s a lot about belief and that’s what those days with Legend FC gave us.”

In the second “UFC Fight Night 157” bout, Danaa lost via unanimous decision to Heili “The Mongolian Knight” Alateng, 27, of Inner Mongolia, China. In the ninth bout, Kara-France defeated Mark “Bumblebee” De La Rosa, 24, of Fort Worth, Texas, United States via unanimous decision.
