Former professional boxer Laila Ali, 41, among the 16 celebrities who participated in “The Masked Singer” Season 2. The new season of the reality singing competition television series premiered on Fox on September 25, 2019.
Nick Cannon is back to host “The Masked Singer” Season 2. Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke are also back as the judges.
The 16 mystery celebrity contestants of “The Masked Singer” Season 2 were divided into four groups. Ali was among the four contestants in the third group who performed in the second episode titled “Return of the Masks: Group C,” which aired on Fox on October 2, 2019.
As Panda, Ali sang “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson in the first round. She competed against Black Widow, Leopard and Flamingo who sang “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” by Whitney Houston, “Somebody to Love” by Queen and “Sucker” by Jonas Brothers.
Panda and Leopard were in the bottom two. In the smackdown, they sang “All I Do is Win” by DJ Khaled and “Respect” by Aretha Franklin, respectively.
In the end, Leopard was safe. Panda was revealed to be Ali, the eighth among the nine children of the late legendary heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali.
Born on December 30, 1977 in Miami Beach, Florida, United States, Laila earned her bachelor’s degree in Business from Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California, USA. Her mother Veronica Porché Ali is a psychologist and is of Louisiana Creole descent.
When Laila was 16 years old, she worked as a manicurist. Before pursuing a career in boxing, she owned her own nail salon.
At the age of 21, Laila made her professional boxing debut on October 10, 1999. She competed in super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions until February 3, 2007 earning 24 wins and 0 loss.
Out of Laila’s 24 wins, 21 were via knockout. Among the opponents she defeated was Jacqueline “Jacqui” Frazier-Lyde, 57, the daughter of the late former world heavyweight boxing champion Joe Frazier.
