Vanessa-Mae Walters, 19, of Makati City was crowned Miss Teen Eco International Philippines 2019 on September 15, 2019. But on October 4, 2019, she was dethroned and replaced by Mary Daena Zaide Resurrecion, 18, of Manila.
Miss World Philippines national director Arnold L. Vegafria cited three reasons why Walters was stripped of her title. The teen Australian-Cebuano model was accused of misrepresentation of her credentials, unprofessional behavior and indecency.
It was not explained how Walters misrepresented her credentials. On the other hand, details were given in the other two offenses she allegedly committed.
Regarding unprofessional behavior, Walters did not attend official functions to promote Miss Eco Teen Philippines and walked out on meetings with Vegafria, according to the official statement released by Miss World Philippines. She allegedly refused to sign the contract with the organization, as well.
The Miss Eco Teen International Organization has called the attention of Miss World Philippines regarding Walters’ nude photos circulating online and posted on her own social media accounts. This and her alleged public display of alcohol and tobacco use were considered acts of indecency.
“These are clear violations based on the Miss World Philippines Candidate Rule Book,” Miss World Philippines explained in a statement. “The offenses she has committed warrant the removal of her title as Miss Eco Teen Philippines 2019 winner and its corresponding prizes.”
Representing Makati City, Walters competed against 39 other candidates in Miss World Philippines 2019. The coronation night took place at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
During the competition, it was mentioned that Walters is currently studying Law and Philosophy at the Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. Hailing from Mandaue City, Cebu, she was crowned as the inaugural Miss Teen Earth on June 8, 2014 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, Resurreccion is set to represent the Philippines in Miss Teen Eco International 2019 in Cairo, Egypt. Born on November 14, 2000, she made her national beauty pageant debut in Miss World Philippines 2019.
Resurreccion plays volleyball. She is a student athlete of Emilio Aguinaldo College in Paco, Manila.
