Yushin “Thunder” Okami, 38, of Kanagawa, Japan was one of the winners at “ONE: Century 世紀” in Tokyo, Japan. It was the Japanese mixed martial artist’s first victory in ONE Championship.
Featuring MMA, Muay Thai and kickboxing matches, “ONE: Century 世紀” had two parts with 11 bouts each both of which took place at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo on October 12, 2019. In the fifth bout of the first part, Okami fought Agilan “Alligator” Thani, 24, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia competed in an MMA bout in the welterweight division with Kemp Cheng as the referee.
For the first two rounds of the match, Okami was in control. He used his superior grappling skills to ground Thani and threaten with submissions.
In the final round, Thani was more competitive but it was too late. After three five-minute rounds, the welterweight contest was left in the hands of the judges.
In the end, Cheng raised the hand of Okami, who was declared the winner via split decision. It ended the Japanese MMA veteran’s three-bout losing streak.
Winning at “ONE: Century 世紀” improved the professional MMA record of Okami to 12 wins and 8 losses. On the other hand, Thani now has 10 wins and 2 losses.
Born in Kanagawa on July 21, 1981, Okami has been competing professionally since 2002. He previously competed in Pancrase, Pride and the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
“ONE: Century 世紀” marked Okami’s third outing in ONE Championship. He lost to his first two opponents in the promotion namely Kiamrian Abbasov and James Nakashima.
Featuring seven title bouts, “ONE: Century 世紀” was the second ONE Championship event held in Japan. It marked the martial arts organization’s 100th live event.
Including Japan and Malaysia, a total of 18 countries were represented in the two parts of “ONE: Century 世紀.” The others were Algeria, Belarus, Brazil, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Myanmar, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United States.
