Coco Arayha Suparurk, 24, Thailand, almost won Miss Grand International 2019. She was the second runner-up of the seventh edition of the international beauty pageant Nawat Itsaragrisil founded in 2013.
Hosted by Leo Aldana, 35, of Venezuela and Miss Grand International 2018 Clara Sosa, 26, of Paraguay, the Miss Grand International 2019 coronation night took place at the Poliedro de Caracas, Caracas, Venezuela on October 25, 2019. It was the first time the contest was held in Latin America.
Bested 59 other candidates, Lourdes Valentina Figuera Morales, 19, of Puerto La Cruz, Anzoátegui, Venezuela was crowned Miss Grand International 2019. María Fernanda Malo Juvera Raimond Kedilhac, 22, of Mexico, Carmen Irina Drayton, 23, of Panama and Marjorie Marcelle Corrêa Angelotti, 23, Brazil were the respective first, third and fourth runners-up.
Dayton was Best in Swimsuit while Mara Štefica Topić, 24, Ecuador was Best in National Costume and Camila Namie Escribens, 21, of Peru was Best in Evening Gown. Nguyễn Hà Kiều Loan, 19, Vietnam made it to the Top 20 by winning the Miss Popular Vote award.
Months before Miss Grand International 2019, Suparurk was in hot water due to body-shaming. On July 4, 2019, she described Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray of the Philippines as “fat” in an Instagram Story.
On July 13, 2019, Supapurk was crowned Miss Grand Thailand 2019. When asked on the talk show “Orange Mama” about body-shaming Gray, the Thai beauty queen said she would apologize when the reigning Miss Universe if the directly sent her a message.
While on “Orange Mama,” Supapurk emphasized the fact that she just won Miss Grand Thailand 2019. She wanted people to just celebrate with her.
Before the Miss Grand International 2019 coronation night ended, Aldana announced that Figuera is crowning her successor in 2020 also in Venezuela. Watch the coronation night here:
