Tanukiat Janchum: Muay Thai is steeped in Thai martial arts history

ONE Championship has partnered with the Sports Authority of Thailand to further develop the sport of Muay Thai on a global scale. The partnership was formally announced during the official kick-off “ONE: A New Tomorrow” press conference at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on January 6, 2020.

Professional Sports Development and Boxing Department director Tanukiat Janchum attended the event. He was with ONE Championship Thailand president “Plai” Jitinat Asdamongkol, Minister of Tourism and Sports secretary Khemmapol Auitayakul and other Thai officials.

“We are excited to announce this partnership with ONE Championship with our goal of raising the profile of the sport of Muay Thai,” Tanukiat stated during the event. “Muay Thai is steeped in Thai martial arts history. It is a representation of our people and our culture.”

“The sport deserves to be showcased on a global scale to millions of people around the world,” the Professional Sports Development and Boxing Department director continued. “Through this partnership with ONE, we can leverage both of our resources to bring the action and excitement of authentic Muay Thai to fans across the globe.”

 

ONE Championship will hold the “ONE: A New Tomorrow” fight night at the Impact Arena in Bangkok on January 10, 2020. There are six mixed martial arts matches, five Muay Thai contests and one kickboxing bout on the fight card.

Four athletes will represent Thailand at “ONE: A New Tomorrow.” They are ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion “The Iron Man” Rodtang Jitmuangnon, ONE Atomweight Kickboxing and Muay Thai World Champion Stamp Fairtex, Muangthai P.K. Saenchaimuaythaigym and Sangmanee Sathian MuayThai Gym. They were all present during the press conference.

Several Thai celebrities also graced the event. Among them were Muay Thai fighter-turned-singer Kratae R. Siam (กระแต อาร์สยาม), singer “Typhoon” Kanokchat Manyaton (กนกฉัตร มรรยาทอ่อน), hip-hop group Buddha Bless (บุดด้า เบลส) member Suranun Chumtaratorn (สุรนันต์ ชุ่มธาราธร) and actors Sanya Kunakorn (สัญญา คุณากร), “Big” Thongpoom Siripipat (“บิ๊ก” ทองภูมิ สิริพิพัฒน์) and “Bank” Thiti Mahayotaruk (“แบงค์” ติ มหาโยธารักษ์).
