Jonathan “The General” Haggerty, 22, of the United Kingdom will not simply be a challenger at “ONE: A New Tomorrow.” The English ONE Super Series star will challenge a hometown hero in the main event of ONE Championship’s first event in 2020.

Haggerty will challenge reigning ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion “The Iron Man” Rodtang Jitmuangnon, 22, of Thailand at “ONE: A New Tomorrow.” It will be a rematch between the two ONE Super Series stars.

On January 6, 2020, ONE Championship held the official kick-off “ONE: A New Tomorrow” press conference at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. During the event, Haggerty said, “I am thankful to ONE Championship for giving me the opportunity to challenge for the title again and I am thankful to Rodtang for accepting the bout.”

“I am excited to be able to compete in Thailand and I welcome the pressure of being the visitor in hostile territory so to speak,” Haggerty continued. “Rodtang is a fantastic champion and he pushed me to my limit during our first meeting but now, I am back to take down another Thai legend and reclaim my ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship.”

Haggerty is the former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion. He was dethroned by Rodtang on August 2, 2019 at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

Also during the “ONE: A New Tomorrow” press conference, ONE Championship announced a partnership with the Sports Authority of Thailand, which aims to further develop the sport of Muay Thai on a global scale. The collaboration will see both organizations work together to establish ONE Hero Series Muay Thai in Thailand, which seeks to discover grassroots Muay Thai talent in both the local and international level.

ONE Championship Thailand president “Plai” Jitinat Asdamongkol, Minister of Tourism and Sports secretary Khemmapol Auitayakul and Professional Sports Development and Boxing Department director Tanukiat Janchum also attended the “ONE: A New Tomorrow” press conference. Actors Sanya Kunakorn (สัญญา คุณากร), 56, “Big” Thongpoom Siripipat (“บิ๊ก” ทองภูมิ สิริพิพัฒน์), 31, and “Bank” Thiti Mahayotaruk (“แบงค์” ติ มหาโยธารักษ์), 23, singers Kratae R. Siam (กระแต อาร์สยาม), 32, and “Typhoon” Kanokchat Manyaton (กนกฉัตร มรรยาทอ่อน), 28, and hip-hop group Buddha Bless (บุดด้า เบลส) member Suranun “Tong” Chumtaratorn (สุรนันต์ ชุ่มธาราธร), 43, graced the event as special guests.
