Celine Van Ouytsel, 23, will represent Belgium in Miss Universe 2020. It will be the 69th edition of the annual international beauty pageant run by the Miss Universe Organization, which is based in the United States.
The newly crowned Miss Belgium 2020 was born in Herentals, Antwerp, Belgium in 1997. She went to the University of Antwerp and now holds a master’s degree in Law.
In 2016, Van Ouytsel competed in Miss Antwerp and finished as second runner-up. The title was won by Lenty Frans, 25, who went on to be crowned Miss Belgium 2016 and Miss World Europe 2016.
On September 15, 2019, Van Ouytsel was crowned Miss Antwerp 2019. Representing the province, she competed against 31 other candidates in Miss Belgium 2020.
Broadcast on MENT TV, the Miss Belgium 2020 coronation night took place at the Plopsaland Theater in De Panne, Belgium on January 11, 2020. Aside from winning the title, Van Ouytsel was also named Miss Social Media.
Runner-up to Van Ouytsel was Celest Decaestecker, 19, of Leffinge, West Flanders. Anicca Van Hollebeke, 23, of Faimes, Liège, Laura Vanquaillie, 20, of Bertrix, Luxembourg and Elize Baron, 21, of Herent, Flemish Brabant were the respective second, third and fourth runners-up.
Before winning the crown, Van Ouytsel fell onstage and lost her strapless bra while walking onstage in front of the judges and the audience. Wearing a white and blue glittery gown, she sprang back up and continued her walk leaving her strapless bra on the floor.
It was the 52nd edition of Miss Belgium. Van Outysel succeeds Elena Castro Suarez, 19, who is also from Antwerp.
Suarez was unplaced when she represented Belgium in Miss World 2019 in London, England. The title was won by Toni-Ann Singh, 23, of Jamaica.
It was Angeline Flor Pua, 24, who represented Belgium in Miss Universe 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. She was Miss Antwerp 2018 and Miss Belgium 2018 and she finished in the Top 30 in Miss World 2018.
Pua did not place in Miss Universe 2019. It was Zozibini Tunzi, 26, of South Africa who won the crown.
Van Ouytsel will represent Belgium in Miss World 2020 if it takes place first before Miss Universe 2020. If that happens and she does not win in the former, she will represent her home country again in the latter.
Belgium has yet to win in Miss Universe and Miss World. The highest placements the country had in these beauty pageants were achieved by Miss Universe 1981 fourth runner-up Dominique Van Eeckhoudt and Miss World 1962 fifth runner-up Christine Delit.
The venues and dates of Miss Universe 2020 and Miss World 2020 are yet to be announced. Meanwhile, here is a clip featuring a workout by the Miss Belgium 2020:
