Igorot mixed martial artist Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 35, of the Philippines is one of the five Team Lakay fighters on the “ONE: Fire and Fury” card. The former ONE Lightweight World Champion will face Pieter “The Archangel” Buist, 31, of the Netherlands.
Representing Team Souwer and Combat Brothers, Buist holds a professional MMA record of 16 wins and 4 losses. He is taking the fight on two weeks notice.
Featuring eight MMA fights and three Muay Thai matches, ONE Championship will hold “ONE: Fire and Fury” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on January 31, 2020. In the co-main event of the evening, Folayang and Buist will battle it out in an MMA match in the lightweight division.
Originally, Folayang was set to fight Ahmed “Wolverine” Mujtaba, 26, of Pakistan at “ONE: Fire and Fury,” the second ONE Championship event in 2020. But the Pakistani contender was pulled out from the card for undisclosed reasons and was replaced by Buist.
This makes Folayang the first ever Filipino opponent of Buist in an MMA bout. The Dutch contender joined ONE Championship in 2019 and defeated two opponents namely Kota “Harato” Shimoishi, 32, of Japan and Antonio “The Spartan” Caruso, 29, of Australia.
“ONE: Fire and Fury” marks Folayang’s 18th bout in ONE Championship and Buist’s third outing in the Singapore-based martial arts organization. The Igorot contender has been competing in the Singapore-based martial arts organization since 2011.
Currently, Folayang has 22 wins and 8 losses. In his most recent bout, which was at “ONE: Masters of Fate” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on November 8, 2019, he defeated Amarsanaa “Spear” Tsogookhuu, 29, of Mongolia via technical decision.
The other four Team Lakay fighters on the “ONE: Fire and Fury” card are Gina “Conviction” Iniong, 30, Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang, 26, Danny “The King” Kingad, 24, and ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 23.
