Nevada’s Roxanne Modafferi earns 2nd UFC win at ‘UFC 246,’ decisions Colorado’s Maycee Barber

Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi, 36, of Las Vegas, Nevada, United States was one of the winners at “UFC 246.” It was her second victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 11 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 246” took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States on January 18, 2020. In the sixth bout of the evening, Modafferi fought Maycee “The Future” Barber, 21, of Greeley, Colorado, USA in the women’s flyweight division.

Barber entered the caged as an undefeated fighter. She was coming out of three consecutive wins in the UFC after a knockout victory in “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” Season 2 episode 5.

Jason Herzog served as the referee of the match between Modaferri and Barber. After three five-minute rounds, the flyweight bout was left in the hands of the judges.

Two judges scored it 30-27 while the third one saw it 30-26. In the end, Herzog raised the hand of Modaferri, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

“I have many plans now, not sure which one will come first but I’ll fight anyone,” Modaferri said after her “UFC 246” win. “I’m not afraid of anyone in the flyweight division, as long as they make weight.”

Winning at “UFC 246” improved the professional MMA record of Madaferri to 24 wins and 16 losses. On the other hand, Barber now has 8 wins and 1 loss.

Eight countries were represented at “UFC 246,” namely Afghanistan, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Ireland, Nigeria, Rusia and the U.S. Modaferri and Barber were of the 16 athletes who represented the U.S.

The first two opponent Modaferri defeated in the UFC was Antonina “Pantera” Shevchenko, 35, of Kyrgyzstan and Peru. The Las Vegas native defeated her Kyrgyzstani-Peruvian opponent via split decision at “UFC Fight Night 149” on April 20, 2019.

On July 6, 2018, Modaferri competed in the finale of “The Ultimate Fighter 27.” She knocked out Barb “Little Warrior” Honchak, 40, of St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware, USA on September 2, 1982, Modaferri is currently based in Las Vegas. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts, USA.
