Tim Tebow, 32, of Florida, United States and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, 24, of Western Cape, South Africa got married on January 20, 2020. The wedding ceremony of the former National Football League quarterback and Miss Universe 2017 took place at the La Paris Estate in Cape Town, South Africa.
The 30-minute wedding ceremony was held shortly before sunset. It was attended by approximately 260 guests including Nel-Peters’ pageant coach Werner Wessels, Miss World 2015 Rolene Strauss and Pastor Louie Giglio of Passion City Church.
Tebow was born in Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines on August 14, 1987. His parents Robert Ramsey Tebow II and Pamela Elaine Pemberton Tebow are Baptist missionaries.
Tim graduated from the University of Florida. He played for the Denver Broncos from 2010 to 2011, the New York Jets in 2012, the New England Patriots in 2013 and the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015.
In January 2010, after graduating from the University of Florida, Tim established the Tim Tebow Foundation. In partnership with CURE International, the foundation completed the construction of the Tebow CURE Hospital in Davao City, Philippines in 2014.
Born in Sedgefield, South Africa on June 28, 1995, Nel-Peters earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Entrepreneurship from North-West University. While studying, she worked as a part-time model.
The parents of Nel-Peters are Bennie Peters and Anne-Marie Steenkamp. The North-West University alum is close to her stepfather Johan Steenkamp and stepmother Elzabé Peters.
Nel-Peters met Tim through Night to Shine, a Tim Tebow Foundation initiative that hosts special prom nights for children with special needs including her late step sister Franje Peters who had cerebellar agenesis. Franje died on May 4, 2019.
On March 26, 2017, Nel-Peters was crowned Miss South Africa 2017 at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg, South Africa. She was crowned Miss Universe 2017 at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on November 26, 2017.
While reigning as Miss Universe 2017, Nel-Peters started dating Tim. She thanked him in her farewell speech at Miss Universe 2018 on December 17, 2018 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand where she crowned Catriona Gray, 26, of the Philippines as her successor.
On January 9, 2019, Tim proposed to Nel-Peters at his family farm in Jacksonville, Florida. He announced their engagement the next day.
