“UFC 247” marked the third successful title defense of Jon “Bones” Jones, 32, of Rochester, New York, United States as the reigning champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s light heavyweight division. Training out of Jackson Wink MMA Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, he has been holding the belt since December 29, 2018.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches, the UFC held “UFC 247” at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, USA on February 8, 2020. In the main event of the evening, Dominick “The Devastator” Reyes, 30, of Victorville, California, USA challenged the reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.

Dan Miragliotta served as the referee. After five five-minute rounds, the title bout was left in the hands of the judges, who saw it 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46.

In the end, Miragliotta raised the hand of Jones. The Jackson Wink MMA Academy representative was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

This made Jones the first fighter to beat Reyes in a professional MMA bout. The Victorville native now has 12 wins and 1 loss.

Winning at “UFC 247” improved the professional MMA record of Jones to 26 wins, 1 loss, 0 draw and 1 No Contest. He is now riding a 17-bout winning streak.

The co-main event of the evening was also a successful title defense. Katlyn “Blonde Fighter” Chookagian, 31, of Jersey City, New Jersey, USA failed to dethrone UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko (Валентина Шевченко), 31, of Peru.

On July 29, 2017, Jones dethroned Daniel Cormier as the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion but the result was overturned to a No Contest on September 13, 2017 due to a failed pre-fight drug test of the former. The latter was retroactively reinstated as the champion but on December 28, 2018, he vacated the title.

Jones defeated Alexander Gustafsson in their rematch on December 29, 2018 and filled the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship belt. The Jackson Wink MMA Academy representative successfully defended the belt from Anthony Smith on March 2, 2019 and Thiago “Marreta” Santos, 35, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on July 6, 2019.
