Shakie Peters of Denham Springs, Livingston Parish, Louisiana, United States has died. She was 32.
Peters was a transgender woman. She was born Joseph Peters.
On June 29, 2020, Peters was with Denham Springs natives Christopher Causey, 38, and Lynette Muse, 35. That was the last time Peters was seen alive.
That day, Peters, Causey and Muse traveled from Denham Springs to St. Helena Express Casino in Amite City, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. Causey and Muse allegedly shot Peters several times in Amite City and left the transgender woman’s body on the side of the roadway.
At around 2:15 p.m. on July 1, 2020, St. Helena Sheriff’s Office deputies located Peters’ body in Amite City and initially identified her as a man. They have yet to arrest Causey and Muse.
Amite City is around 40 miles away from Denham Springs. The latter is the largest area of commercial and residential development in Livingston Parish.
Professionally known as Lady Tambourine, gospel musician Rosalie Marie Ashton-Washington, 65, was born in Denham Springs. Gerard Landry, 66, is the incumbent mayor of the city.
