Karol Rosa, 25, of Vila Velha, Espirito Santo, Brazil was one of the “UFC 251” winners. The Brazilian mixed martial artist earned her second victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 13 MMA matches, “UFC 251” took place at the UFC Fight Island on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on July 11, 2020 (or July 12, 2020 in the UAE). In the second bout, Rosa fought Vanessa “Miss Simpatia” Melo, 32, of Sao Paulo, Brazil in the women’s bantamweight division.
Daniel Movahedi served as the referee. After three five-minute rounds, the bantamweight contest was left in the hands of the judges.
Two of the judges scored it 30-26 while one of them saw it 30-27. In the end, Movahedi raised the hand of Rosa, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “UFC 251” improved Rosa’s professional MMA record to 13 wins and 3 losses. The Vila Velha native is now riding a four-bout winning streak.
On the other hand, Melo now has 10 wins and 8 losses. The Sao Paulo native is now riding a three-bout losing streak.
A total of 12 countries were represented at “UFC 251” namely Australia, Brazil, Czech Republic, England, Finland, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, Scotland, Switzerland and the U.S. Rosa and Melo were two of the eight representatives of Brazil.
In the co-main event, Max “Blessed” Holloway, 28, of Waiane, Hawaii, USA failed to dethrone UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski, 31, of Windang, New South Wales, Australia. In the main event, Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal, 35, of Miami, Florida, USA was not able to dethrone UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman, 33, who was fighting out of Nigeria by way of Delray Beach, Florida.
Rosa has been competing professionally since 2012. Before joining the UFC, she competed in Haidar Capixaba Combat, Capixaba Fight, The Start Combat, Aspera Fighting Championship, Curitiba Top Fight, New Corpore Extreme, Buzios Fight Night, Watch Out Combat Show, Favela Kombat, Nacao Cyborg, MMA Brutus and Future Fighting Championship.
On August 31, 2009, Rosa made her UFC debut at “UFC Fight Night 157.” She defeated Lara Fritzen Procopio, 24, of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil via split decision.
