Phoenix, Arizona’s Mackenzie Dern earns 4th UFC win, submits Randa Markos at ‘UFC Vegas 11’

Mackenzie Dern, 27, of Phoenix, Arizona, United States was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 178,” also known as “UFC on ESPN+ 36″ or “UFC Vegas 11.” The Brazilian-American mixed martial artist earned her fourth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 14 MMA matches, “UFC Vegas” took place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States on September 19, 2020. In the 10th bout of the evening, Dern fought Randa “Quiet Storm” Markos, 35, of Windsor, Ontario, Canada in the women’s strawweight division.

Jason Herzog served as the referee. He put a stop to the strawweight contest after 3 minutes and 44 seconds in the first round when Dern submitted Markos via armbar.

Seven countries were represented at “UFC Vegas 11” namely Australia, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Italy, Sweden and the U.S. Dern was one of the 20 fighters who represented the host country while Markos was one of the two representatives of Canada.

Dern was one of the four recipients of the Performance of the Night bonuses. The other three were Khamzat “Borz” Chimaev (Хамзат Чимаев), 26, of Stockholm, Sweden, Damon “The Leech” Jackson, 32, of Dallas, Texas, USA and Randy “The Zohan” Costa, 26, of Tauton, Massachusetts, USA.

Winning at “UFC Vegas 11” improved the professional MMA record of Dern to 9 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Markos now has 10 wins, 9 losses and 1 draw.

 

Born in Phoenix on March 24, 1993, Dern is of highly decorated grappling competitor Wellington Leal “Megaton” Dias, 52, of Brazil. She is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

As an MMA fighter, Dern has been competing professionally since 2016. Before joining the UFC, she competed in Legacy Fighting Championship and Invicta Fighting Championships.

As an undefeated MMA fighter, Dern made her UFC debut in 2018. Before facing Markos at “UFC Vegas 11,” she defeated Ashley Yoder, Amanda Bobby Brundage and Hannah Cifers but lost to Amanda Ribas.
