Khamzat Chimaev vs Israel Adesanya: Will Dana White make this happen?

Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya, 31, of New Zealand and Nigeria and Khamzat “Borz” Chimaev (Хамзат Чимаев), 26, of Stockholm, Sweden are two of the undefeated mixed martial artists currently signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Recently, the latter took to Twitter to challenge the former, who is the reigning UFC Middleweight Champion.

Adesanya has yet to respond to Chimaev. There are still no announcements from UFC president Dana White about the next opponents of the two undefeated MMA fighters.

Aside from being undefeated and signed with the UFC, Adesanya and Chimaev have another common denominator. Both have left their home country and are currently based in another county.

Chimaev moved from his birthplace Chechnya, Russia to Sweden in 2011. Training at the AllStars Training Center in Stockholm, Sweden, he competes in the middleweight and welterweight divisions.

On July 16, 2020, Chimaev made his UFC debut at “UFC on ESPN 13” on the UFC Fight Island on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He submitted John “The Welsh Wrecking Machine” Phillips, 35, of Swansea, Wales via D’Arce choke in the middleweight division.

On September 19, 2020, Chimaev earned his third UFC victory. He knocked out Gerald “GM3” Meerschaert, 32, of Racine, Wisconsin, USA in the middleweight division at “UFC Vegas 11” at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.

Winning at “UFC Vegas 11” improved the professional MMA record of Chimaev to 9 wins and 0 loss. On the other hand, Adesanya currently has 20 wins and 0 loss.

Adesanya was born in Lagos, Nigeria on July 22, 1989. He and his family moved to Ghana and stayed there for 10 months before relocating to Rotorua, New Zealand in October 2001.

On October 5, 2019, Adesanya became the new UFC Middleweight Champion by dethroning Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker, 29, of Australia at “UFC 243” at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. On March 7, 2020, the Nigerian-Kiwi champion successfully defended his belt from Yoel “Soldier of God” Romero, 42, of Pinar del Rio, Cuba and Miami, Florida, USA at “UFC 248” at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
