Desmond Olushola Elliot is an actor and politician from Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria. He is also a film producer and director.

Elliot became an actor at the encouragement of a friend. From 1999 to 2020, he starred in more than 200 Nollywood films.

Desmond and his wife Victoria Elliot have four children, who are two sets of twins namely Denzel Elliot, Donald Elliot, Desmond Elliot and Dawna Elliot. Here are 13 more things about the Nollywood actor:

 

  1. He was born on February 4, 1974 in Lagos. His Yoruba father is from Olowogbowo, Lagos Island, Lagos while his Igbo mother is from Illah, Oshimili North, Delta State, Nigeria.
  2. He attended Air Force Primary School and St John’s College, which are both in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.
  3. In 1999, he made his acting debut. He played supporting roles in several soap operas including “Everyday People,” “One Too Much” and “Saints and Sinners.”
  4. In 2003, he graduated from Lagos State University in Ojo, Lagos State with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He married Victoria on December 26, 2003.
  5. In 2005, he starred with Marie Eboka, Ibinabo Fiberesima and Ufuoma McDermott in “A Night in the Philippines,” which was written by Peter Roc Onwuka and directed by Zeb Ejiro. In the same year, he starred with Stella Damasus, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Patience Ozokwor in “Behind Closed Doors,” which earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination from the 2006 African Movie Academy Awards.
  6. In 2008, he launched The Desmond Elliott Foundation, which provides clean and safe water to people in rural areas and urban poor areas in Nigeria.
  7. He produced the films “Reloaded” and “Before the Light” in 2008 and “Guilty Pleasures” and “Edikan” in 2009.
  8. In 2013, he directed the drama film “Finding Mercy” and starred in it alongside Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, Faith Bungie and Blossom Chukwujekwu. For his performance, he was nominated for the 2014 African Movie Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and won Best Supporting Actor at the 2014 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards.
  9. He starred with Vivica A. Fox, Ramsey Nouah and Ayemere Caleb, Kenneth DeLozier in the romantic comedy film “30 Days in Atlanta,” which was released in the United States on October 30, 2014, in Ghana on January 30, 2015 and in France on January 18, 2017.
  10. In September 2014, he announced his plan to run for Lagos State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress.
  11. On April 11, 2015, he was elected in the Nigerian general elections to a Surulere constituency seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
  12. His handwashing project that supports the Lagos State government’s fight against the new coronavirus (COVID-19) was widely criticized on Twitter.
  13. He was accused of supporting the Anti-Social Media Bill in Nigeria and was criticized during the #EndSARS protest in October 2020. He took to social media to deny the accusation and declare that no such bill was developed.
